I am constantly looking for ways to keep my mind calm and at peace. After experiencing a couple years of intense anxiety, self-care has become an important factor of how I go about my day-to-day life. Whether it’s through meditation or simply taking the time to paint my nails, I have to make sure that I take time for myself.  

Aromatherapy is my latest venture into the self-care space. I had heard about it in the past, but did not attempt to try it until a couple of months ago. It’s a form of alternative medicine that involves using natural oils to balance your mind and body. There are so many oils that can be used, but for my benefit, I chose lavender because it helps reduce anxiety and stress. It also doesn't hurt that it smells good!  

My first step was to buy a diffuser. I wasn’t looking to spend too much money since I wasn’t sure of how it would work for me, so I brought a basic one that could get the job done. I filled it with water, added a couple of lavender oil drops and let the magic commence.  

Whenever I'm in my room, I turn it on. I definitely have it on while I’m meditating, but I also turn it on when I’m just lounging around. I think it’s important to continue to promote that calming energy, even when I feel fine since I have felt the benefits of incorporating it into my life.

It helps me feel calmer and clears my mind when different thoughts are moving at the speed of light. Everybody won’t have the same results, but having the smell of lavender take up my room has been beneficial.
