What You Need to Know Before Getting Your First Tattoo
When Carine and I turned 18, we got our first tattoo.
Choosing the tattoo wasn’t too difficult for us because it fit our situation. We’re were leaving to go to separate colleges (I didn’t join her at Temple until my sophomore year) and we were nervous about being away from each other for so long.
I got the first part of a quote on my ribs, “Together forever, never apart…” Carine got the rest of the quote on her ribs as well, “maybe in distance, but never in “heart”
When it comes to getting your first tattoo, take the time to figure out what you want. There’s no rush. It’s going to be a permanent mark on your body, so you should make sure that it’s something you really want.
Once you’re ready, do your research and figure out what tattoo artist you want to go to. Ask your friends who did theirs, Google artists who specialize in the art you want if it’s intricate or check Instagram! A lot of artists are using it to showcase their most recent work.
I always get asked about the pain and I really think it depends on your pain tolerance. For me, it was pretty painful, but it was so worth it that I didn’t even think about it.
